TORLON®
Torlon
poly(amide-imide) exhibits exceptional physical and chemical properties.
It can withstand continuous exposure at temperatures from 450ºF to 500ºF
(230ºC to 260ºC). Torlon 4301 and 4203 resins provide better compressive
strength and higher deflection temperature than most other high performance
thermoplastics. Their low coefficient of thermal expansion and high creep
resistance provide excellent dimensional stability over a wide range of
temperatures. Chemically, Torlon resins are resistant to attack by aromatic
and aliphatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated and fluorinated hydrocarbons and
most inorganic salts and acid solutions.
Product
Applications
Torlon
products are used where high strength, resistance to wear, solvents and
elevated temperatures are important application requirements. Examples
include:
- Non-lubricated
bearings
- Seals
- Valves
- Compressor
parts
- Piston
parts
- Bearing
cages
Torlon
possesses superior electrical and structural characteristics at elevated
temperatures, and excellent radiation resistance. Torlon is used for:
- High
temperature seals
- Electrical
components and valve parts exposed to chemicals at elevated temperatures
and pressures.
Typical
Properties
- Torlon
4203
Exhibits superior electrical insulation at elevated temperatures and
is primarily designed for structural, electrical, and electronic applications.
In addition Torlon 4203 displays excellent resistance to radiation.
- Torlon
4301
Retaining the same basic physical and chemical properties as 4203, Torlon
4301 is designed for bearing and wear applications such as non-lubricated
bearings, seals, valve and compressor parts, piston parts, and bearing
cages. It is used where high strength, resistance to wear, resistance
to elevated temperatures, and solvent resistance are important application
requirements. Torlon 4301 has a very low coefficient of friction and
exhibits little or no slip-stick in bearing applications.
There
are several other grades of Torlon available. Please contact Alro
Plastics for additional information.
