POLYPROPYLENE

Polypropylene is an economical material that offers a combination of outstanding physical, chemical, mechanical, thermal and electrical properties not found in any other thermoplastic. Polypropylene is a high corrosion resistant material that has high temperature and tensile strength. Polypropylene possesses excellent resistance to organic solvents and degreasing agents as well as electrolytic attack.

Compared to low or high density polyethylene, polypropylene has a lower impact strength but superior working temperatures and tensile strength. In addition, polypropylene is lightweight, stain resistant and has a low moisture absorption rate.

Polypropylenes

Homopolymer

The most widely used of three grades, this crystalline material is noted for its high strength-to-weight ratio, excellent chemical resistance and high performance in thermoforming and corrosive environments. Homopolymer also:

  • Is appropriate for applications to 180ºF (82ºC)
  • Resists most acids, alkalis and solvents
  • Meets FDA 21CFR Section 177.1520 (including white)
  • Is USDA approved for use in federally inspected meat and poultry packing facilities
  • Is available in natural.
  • Also is available in black and white sheet, film masked one side.

White Homopolymer

Using advanced quality control measurement systems, Poly Hi Solidur has systematically and dramatically achieved the bright white specified by the semiconductor industry. With all the advantages of the original homopolymer, these extruded sheets have a gloss second to none. This product (white) comes with one side film masked and is also available with two-side masking.

V-0 Flame Retardant

V-0 Flame Retardant offers expanded design options with white polypropylene and a UL 94 flammability rating of V-O. You can address flame retardant criteria while retaining aesthetics and high performance.

Copolymer

Ethylene, a second monomer, is introduced in the polymerization process to achieve better cold impact strength and other toughness characteristics. Key benefits include:

  • Performs in applications to 170ºF (77ºC)
  • Exhibits higher impact strength
  • Has cold weather impact resistance to -34ºF (-37ºC)
