General Purpose Grade Air-Hardening Tool Steel
AISI S7 is a shock resisting general purpose air-hardening tool steel. The shock absorbing properties provide excellent impact resistance and high strength and toughness. In addition, S-7 has good resistance to softening at moderately high temperatures. This combination of properties makes it a versatile steel that is a good choice for many hot work applications where the operating temperature does not exceed 1000°F (538°C) and cold work applications. Excellent combination of high strength and toughness. Useful in moderate hot work as well as cold work work tooling. Added size stability when air hardened.
Shock resisting tool steels are available in a number of grades. They are typically selected based on the particular combination of properties required for a specific application. S7 provides an excellent combination of properties with a hardness and wear resistance that is slightly less than S5 making it an excellent general impact resisting steel for a wide range of applications.

Properties
S-7 is typically bought to meet chemistry requirements rather than physical requirements. For that reason, physical properties are generally not provided unless requested prior to production. Any material can be sent to a third party after production to be tested for physical properties.
