2024 Alloy Aluminum
Thought of as the "aircraft alloy" because of its strength to weight ratio. It also has excellent fatigue resistance. While 2024 has good machinability it only possesses fair corrosion resistance. In the annealed state, aluminum 2024 has good workability but is only fair to poor in tempers. Typical end uses are aircraft skins and cowls and truck and aircraft structures.
Alro stocks 2024 Aluminum in plate and bar.
More About 2024 Aluminum
Copper is the primary alloying element in 2024 aluminum. Typically this is an extruded material and may be available in alclad sheets. 2024 is typically not forged, like 2014, a related aluminum alloy is.
2024 aluminum lends itself only to resistance welding as a hot joining process and is not recommended for brazing or soldering.
