A36 Galvanized Carbon Steel Structural Shapes

Galvanized A36 steel is one of the most common carbon steel materials used throughout the construction industry. Compared to other structural strength steel, A36 is a relatively low cost material. A36 steel is a hot rolled, low carbon, low alloy steel that has been hot dipped in a zinc rich galvanizing process. The purpose of the galvanizing is to increase corrosion resistance. A36 Galvanized is typically chosen for structural applications or general fabrication, machining and repairs. Like typical A36 steel galvanized can be formed, welded, and machined easily. It is often used in support frames requiring riveting as well as welding and bolting.

Hot Rolled Carbon Steel

Hot rolled carbon bars are often referred to as “SBQ” or "special bar quality," and are known for their superior mechanical properties over commodity grades of merchant bar. The products are made to specific chemistry and mechanical properties ranges, allowing them to be used in engineered applications. Resulting shafts, axles, and gears can be used in the automotive industry and agriculture equipment.

Yield strength of A-36 (36,000 psi) is less than that of cold roll C1018, thus enabling it to bend more readily than C1018. A36 carbon steel can also be galvanized to provide increased corrosion resistance.
