Abrasion Resistant Steel Plate

Often called AR Plate or abrasion-resisting plate, AR235 steel plate is an abrasion-resistant as-rolled carbon steel that contains a high carbon content. AR-235 plate has been developed primarily to supply a low-cost material for high-abrasion applications.

What Is Abrasion Resisting Steel?

Abrasion-resisting steel was designed to satisfy the demand for a grade of steel that would give prolonged service life in high wear  applications where abrasion is the primary cause of failure. The surface hardness of Abrasion Resisting Steel will vary by grade from 200-500 BRINELL. AR steel is typically selected when trying to extend the useful life of critical components. These may include parts that are involved in impact or sliding.

Fabricating AR-235

AR-235 may be fabricated within reasonable limits with respect to machining, forming and welding. AR-235 provides abrasion resistance through careful control of chemical composition, without heat treatment. However, steels of this hardness cannot be fabricated as readily as conventional structural grades. Thicknesses up to 3/8" can be hole punch but drilling is typically preferred. Limited cold forming and bending can also be done. For details on working with this material, check with your Alro Representative.

In addition to AR235, Alro Steel stocks other abrasion-resisting steel plates including:
AR 400F
AR 500F
and more.
