Rigid PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is a strong, stiff plastic material. Features of rigid PVC are high chemical resistance and good mechanical strength. It is easy to machine and form and it can be bonded with adhesives or solvents. Rigid PVC is typically used for pump and valve components, impellers, shafts, and other parts where corrosion can be a concern.
About Rigid PVC Types
PVC Type I NSF 61 Compliant
Alro Plastics offers PVC Type 1 rod specifically listed as NSF 61 compliant, certifying it for safe use in drinking water systems. This certification means the material is independently verified by NSF International to not leach harmful contaminants into potable water, a critical distinction as not all PVC Type 1 bar holds this listing.
Alro Plastics stocks 1/4" to 9" diameter NSF 61 Compliant PVC Type 1 rod.
PVC Type II
Type II is a uniquely adaptable polyvinyl chloride displaying excellent thermoforming capabilities, contour definition and surface texture. Available finishes include matte and glossy. Type II is fashioned in the form of homogeneous sheets.
CPVC for High Heat Resistance
For applications requiring greater heat resistance (up to 200°F) see CPVC.
PVC Type I and II Features:
- Great corrosion resistance
- Excellent chemical resistance
- Excellent thermoforming capabilities
- Easy to machine and fabricate
PVC Type I and II Applications:
- Dust collecting systems
- Ceiling materials
- Corrosion control equipment
- Flues and vents
- Lab equipment
- Acid fume hood and ducts
