Nyloil® (Oil-filled nylon)  Nyloil® (Oil-filled nylon)
NYLOIL® is a unique cast nylon material with built-in oil lubrication. Compared to other plastic and traditional bearing materials, it provides superior machinability, performance, and durability. Alro Plastics stocks a variety of NYLOIL® grades to provide you with a broad range of options for your application requirements. Alro Plastics stocks NYLOIL® Sheet and NYLOIL® Rod.

NYLOIL® Grades

  • Original NYLOIL® (Green) An excellent option for most bearing applications. It is an internally homogeneously lubricated, high-strength polymer with enhanced wear and reduced friction properties.
  • NYLOIL-FG (Natural) is a self-lubricating nylon bearing material that meets the provisions of FDA Regulations 21 CFR, Section 177.15 (and others) and USDA 3A Sanitary Standards 10-17 for direct contact with food. This is a particularly useful material where additional lubrication is not desirable because of cleanability, contamination, or other considerations.
  • NYLOIL-MDX (Gray or Blue) has slightly higher compressive load capabilities thatn original NYLOIL®. In addition to the oil lubricant, MDX is formulated with Molybdenum Disulfide filler which promotes higher crystallinity in the cast polymer. This yields a bearing material with a more consistent intermolecular structure and generally a narrower distribution within the range of physical property values while retaining the advanced friction properties of unfilled NYLOIL®.

How is NYLOIL® Made

During NYLOIL's manufacturing process, an oil lubricant package is completely dispersed within the cast nylon matrix, making it an integral part of the casting's structure. Because it is all the way through the material, the oil lubricant is not evident by sight or touch but it is always at the surface regardless of the amount of material removed during finish machining or normal wear.

NYLOIL® Compared to Other Bearing Grade Materials

In a general comparison to other bearing materials, NYLOIL® has approximately 25% lower friction than other nylon grades. Because of its homogeneous internal lubrication, NYLOIL® can outperform common bearing materials in corrosive environments where external lubrication is difficult or impossible and it greatly reduces downtime for maintenance. Like other nylon materials, NYLOIL® is also a great choice for reducing noise, and parts are noted for their long life. The oil filler also reduces water absorption, common with standard nylon materials to nearly zero and provides high dimensional stability and crystallinity. NYLOIL® machines as easily as brass metal.
