Alro Plastics Product: PHENOLICS (High Pressure Laminate)

Phenolics are also known as Micarta®, Texolite® and Bakelite®. Phenolic (High Pressure Laminate) is a hard, dense material made by applying heat and pressure to a series of layered materials, such as paper or fabric and then impregnated with a synthetic resin. The layered material usually consists of cellulose paper, cotton fabric, synthetic yarn fabrics, glass fabrics or unwoven fabrics. Once the layers are heated and pressure is applied the layers are transformed into a high pressure thermosetting industrial plastic.

These materials are extremely versatile because of their unusual combination of properties. All grades are light in weight (about 1/2 the weight of aluminum), dense, structurally strong, resistant to moisture, and none will soften appreciably under the reapplication of heat. No one grade can possess all the properties desirable for all applications, therefore we stock a number of grades so that the proper material may be selected for almost any application.
