Hot Work Tool Steel
As a shock absorbing tool steel, AISI H-13 grade may provide an extra margin of safety in tools subject to heavy hammer blows, and those containing deep recesses or sharp corners.
H-13 Tool Steel is a 5% chromium hot work tool steel designed for applications that require extreme toughness combined with good red-hardness.
It should be noted that, although H13 was designed as a hot work steel, it has solved many cold work applications where extra toughness could be gained with some sacrifice of wear resistance.
About H-13 Tool Steel
H-13 is a tool steel alloy that contains chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium. The molybdenum and vanadium provide the strength in this grade while the chromium aids in softening the material when it's being used in high temperatures. H-13 is able to withstand rapid cooling and even premature heat checking. Characteristics include good machining and welding capabilities as well as good ductility.

Properties
H-13 is typically bought to meet chemistry requirements rather than physical requirements. For that reason, physical properties are generally not provided unless requested prior to production. Any material can be sent to a third party after production to be tested for physical properties.

Typical applications include Aluminum Extrusion Dies, Die Casting Dies, Heavy Duty Compression Tools, Forming Punches, Hot Forging Dies, Shear Blades, Plastic Mold Dies, and Bolt Dies.
