Carbon Steel Grating

Carbon Steel Grating Carbon steel grating is sometimes referred to as welded steel grating or open bar grating. Carbon steel grating offers high strength and load capacity. It can be purchased plain, painted, or galvanized. For improved grip on walkways, serrated edges are also an option. Typical uses are industrial flooring, walkways, bridge floors, or ceilings. Grating is also fabricated into a variety of products from storm drains, floor drains, trench drains, to stair treads, and interior or exterior walkways where light and airflow are needed, or where water, ice, and snow cause a hazard.

Types of Carbon Steel Grating

Carbon Steel Bar Grating
Known for its excellent strength, carbon steel bar grating is a standard choice for many applications. Carbon steel bar grating is created through a forge-welding process that uses heat and pressure. This forges the bearing bars and cross rods into a single unit. The result is a carbon steel bar grating with superior strength per pound compared to other bar gratings.

Carbon Steel Safety Grating
GRIP STRUT® safety grating or plank grating, is used to create non-slip walkways and stair treads. The planks have a high strength-to-weight performance, which ensures a high load capacity and long life.
The product is specifically designed for safety underfoot. The unique one-piece diamond-shaped construction provides slip resistance in all directions.

Carbon Steel Stair Tread
Welded stair treads are used in a wide range of industrial, agricultural, and commercial applications. Alro stocks Swage-locked I-bar stair treads and riveted stair treads. In addition to carbon steel stair treads, Alro stocks aluminum and GRIP STRUT® as well as stair tread nosings. Stair treads are designed to improve safety, slip resistance, and to withstand use over a long period of time.

Light Duty Carbon Steel Grating vs. Heavy Duty Carbon Steel Grating – What Is the Difference?

Light duty steel grating is a series of bearing bars joined by welding, dovetailing, swage-locking, or riveting, connected to perpendicular cross bars at various intervals to form a load-bearing panel.
Heavy-duty steel grating applies deeper and thicker bearing bars to ensure greater strength and durability than other grating options. It is fabricated by fusing bars and crossbars together at high temperatures to form a permanent joint.
