4150 Hot Rolled Quenched & Tempered

About 4150 HR Quenched and Tempered (Q&T)

This is a Resulphurized, Hot Rolled, Quenched and Tempered, Stress Relieved steel. 4150R HR Q&T SR is a free-machining alloy steel that provides an outstanding combination of heat treated properties and superior machinability. This alloy steel is manufactured under close quality control for uniformity to an ASTM grain size of 5 to 8. It is especially suitable for service applications where substantial strength, toughness and hardness are required.

Alro stocks 4150 steel - a part of the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) family of steel grades. 4150 round bar is a higher carbon variation of the chromium, manganese, molybdenum 4100 series of low alloy steels. It is considered a low alloy steel because its percentage of metals is low in proportion to its main component, iron. 4150 is noted for increased hardenabilty. It may be selected when slightly higher mechanical properties are required. Machinabilty of 4150 round bar is better in the annealed or normalized condition.  It is ideal to machine in the annealed form and then heat treat it to harden the steel; as heat treatment can make it very hard and difficult to work. On this 4150 Q&T product, tempering has been done to restore some of the ductility after heat treatment and quench.
