Alro Steel was proud to celebrate 70 years in business on June 1, 2018. The origin of the company can be traced back to 1916 when Al’s father Louis Glick and family arrived in Jackson, Michigan, and started a scrap metal business, Glick Iron & Metal.

In 1948, Al Glick set out to start his own business. With the guidance and support of older brother Robert, Alro Steel was incorporated on June 1, 1948. The business began in a small garage in Jackson, Michigan adjacent to Glick Iron & Metal. Al used his resources and networking to match up companies in need of steel with companies that had an excess of steel. This occurred during a period when steel shortages were a problem due to the demands of World War II. Alro Steel quickly became a one-stop-shop that allowed manufacturers to get the metals they needed quickly and easily from one place.

Seventy years later, Alro has expanded through acquisition and organic growth to over 60 locations in 12 states. Alro services 25,000 manufacturing customers with next day service of metals, industrial supplies, and plastics.
