Alro Steel and Alro Plastics participated in MFG Day 2020. Held annually in early October, Manufacturing Day is part of Manufacturing Week, a nationwide grassroots movement, led by manufacturers and organizations like The Enterprise Group of Jackson, MI. This year’s theme was “Creators Wanted” to highlight not only the need for skilled people but the rewarding lifelong careers modern manufacturing has to offer.
In Jackson, Michigan, Alro Plastics partnered with The Enterprise Group of Jackson, along with local manufacturers Lomar Machine & Tool, Michigan Automotive Compressor, Inc (MACI), Technique Inc., as well as JTV and local area schools. This year, everything was held virtually with online events for students to learn about the opportunities available with a career in manufacturing. The goal is to inspire the next generation to embrace careers in skilled trades. Alro Steel in Potterville, MI also participated by hosting a live online event in association with the Capital Areal Manufacturing Council (CAMC) along with member companies and area schools to host Manufacturing Day 2020.
In a recent proclamation by Michigan’s Governor Whitmer, it was noted that Michigan is home to over 11,386 manufacturing firms and that over 185,200 new jobs in manufacturing were created in the past 9 years. Modern manufacturing jobs are difficult to fill today due to a shortage of skilled labor – we need to recruit students and showcase the opportunities available for stability and growth in the manufacturing industry. Manufacturing Day is a great opportunity to do this.
