Alro Steel Corporation and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Alro Metals and Plastics Corporation, strongly support Canada’s efforts to fight against modern slavery under Bill S-211 Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act (the “Act”). Alro is proud to be a company with integrity, that acts ethically and legally, and is honest as it relates to our stakeholders, employees, vendors, and customers. We expect our employees and vendors to act in the same manner.
The Act requires companies that conduct business in Canada to contribute to fighting modern slavery in their supply chains. Alro’s Employee Guidebook requires our employees to conduct themselves with our long-standing commitment “to the highest standards of business conduct”. This standard also applies to our subsidiaries, directors, customers, and suppliers. Alro’s success has been based on ethical and legal conduct, and this includes complying with all laws, rules, and regulations in the jurisdictions in which we conduct business—including laws related to the prohibition of forced and child labour.
Alro believes that the risk of forced and child labour in its supply chain is low. We deal with reputable companies who we expect to comply with applicable laws, rules, and regulations which include laws related to the prohibition of forced and child labour. Accordingly, we do not currently have a specific policy as it relates to forced or child labour, we do not currently review parts of our activities and supply chains that carry a risk of forced or child labour, have not currently undertaken any measures to remediate any forced or child labour, have not currently taken any measures to remediate the loss of income to the most vulnerable families that results from any measure taken to eliminate the use of forced or child labour in our activities and supply chains, and have not provided any direct training to employees on forced or child labour outside of our purchasing and compliance areas.
Alro expects all of its suppliers to conduct business in the same legal and ethical manner we expect of ourselves—which includes the prohibition of forced labour or child labour. Alro reserves the right to immediately suspend or discontinue doing business with suppliers who willfully violated any law or regulation as it relates to the prohibition of forced or child labour.
